The Perfect Guest (Spruce Up Your Guest Room)

G1

I have always put so much time and effort into my guest quarters. As a women living with three boys I find myself needing one room in the house that is perfect most of the time. My guest room is very relaxing and always looks perfect, since no one is usually in there. I decided to share some of my tips on how to  spruce up your guest bedroom. These extra steps will make offer your guest a beautiful and comfortable space to enjoy. Also Anticipating what your guests will need to rest will make them feel appreciated and isn’t that the goal of every host?

I  love when I enter a guest room and instantly feel “at home.” So that was my main inspiration for my guest room. I love when I stay at a hotel and my every need is anticipated. From the fluffy towels ,to the complimentary tea and popcorn. So I want to make sure I offer my guests that same respect when they come to visit.

Bedding: When you walk in a bedroom, bedding is one of the first things to catch your attention, and let’s admit t’s pretty essential for a guest room. The bedding has to be functional and comfortable (while being gorgeous at the same time.) *Side note linens should be fresh and clean when guest arrive. Even if they are clean you may want to show them in the dry with some smell good dryer sheets to give them that fresh smell. It is very important to make sure you have plenty of pillows and extra blankets for your guests. Target has some beautiful quilts and bedspreads, for whatever look you are going for in your guest room. I also like to leave a throw across the bed just in case my guest needs it.

Closet & Drawer Space: I tend to store stuff in my spare room, so I make sure to clean out a closet and a few drawers before my guests arrive. You want to offer them a place to unpack and hang items if they wish to.

P.S. This is a great opportunity to leave a wrinkle remover spray (travel size) for your guests to use if they need it (Add to gift basket Cost $1.54 @ Target )

Fresh Flowers/Plants: Nothing brightens up a room like fresh flowers. I think it makes your guest feel appreciated, and it makes the room smell fresh. I am obsessed with succulents, so I have them all over my house. They are very low maintenance and work perfectly if any of your guests have allergies or are scent sensitive. *Side note  a simple, fast, and inexpensive way to make a vase for fresh flowers is a few coats of chalk paint and light sanding to any mason jar. This will brighten up a room and you can change them for each season.

Magazines & Movies: I love magazines so I always have current ones on hand, which I leave out for my guests to enjoy. I also head to the Red Box and grab a few current movies, so they have something to watch when they retire for the evening.

g9

Charging & WiFi Station: This is one of my favorite DIY projects. I made up a wi-fi password printable and framed it for my guest room. This is a cute way to share your wi-fi passwords with your guest. You can also write this up on a chalkboard if you are feeling stylish (and have good handwriting, which I do not lol.) I also like to leave my guests with a charging dock, which allows them a way to charge multiple items on one power source. This way they can recharge all their devices in one area without having to seek out multiple outlets.

Snack Baskets: I enjoy making snack baskets for my guests. I always leave one on the nightstand, full of their favorite treats and a few bottles of water. I think this is super thoughtful, and offers your guests a late night snack or treat. This comes in handy especially if they are dealing with a time change, and may need an extra boost of sugar until the morning.

Bathroom Basket: I always make a bathroom basket each time we have a guest visit. You can make this a small or large basket depending on your preference. I add a few fresh towels and wash cloths, along with some essential toiletries. I also add the basics; toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, travel size shampoos and lotions, blow dryer, shower gel, chapstick, Tylenol, Tums, razors, facial cleanser, and hand sanitizer. P.S. I like to plug-in a night-light and have some sort of air freshener in the bathroom.

I adore this idea of using a vintage suitcase and all the items mentioned above into one area (snack, books, magazines, throw, handwritten welcome note, and the bathroom basket.)

g13

Last but not least enjoy decorating your guest room. Your guests will love having somewhere to stay that is inviting and relaxing. So make sure you add those special extra touches, that make it feel like home. You want your guests to feel welcomed and relaxed. Each and everything you do will be appreciated, and will not go unnoticed.
